Custom Software Development

If the software you need doesn't exist, I'll build it.

Off-the-shelf software is built for everyone, which means it fits no one perfectly. When your business process is too specific, too complex, or too important to work around, custom software is the answer.

"I don't start with the technology. I start with the problem."

Software that fits how your business actually works.

Most technology consultants start with a platform recommendation. I start with a conversation about the problem. What is not working? What workaround are your people doing every day that they shouldn't have to? What data are you collecting manually that a system should be handling?

I have been writing production software since the early 1990s. That is over 30 years of building things that run in real environments, under real load, with real consequences when they fail. That experience changes how I approach a build. I know what breaks. I know where complexity hides. I know the difference between the thing that will work in a demo and the thing that will still be running five years from now.

I have managed a global development team of 30+ engineers at Defero Partners for over a decade, delivering complex software products for clients who needed things done right. I bring that same discipline to every engagement, regardless of size.

Languages and platforms with 30+ years of production use.

Python, C#, C++, Java, JavaScript, PHP, Visual Basic, Objective C. Node.js, Django, Spring, Laravel, React, Angular. PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, Db2. I use the right tool for the problem, not the one I am most comfortable with or the one that is trending.

For CRM integrations: Salesforce, HubSpot, Siebel, SAP. For healthcare: EPIC APIs, HL7, FHIR. For telephony integration: Twilio, Asterisk, Avaya AES. For workflow automation: custom-built pipelines, webhooks, scheduled jobs, and event-driven architectures that connect systems that were never designed to talk to each other.

Specific problems I solve.

Every engagement starts with understanding what you actually need. These are the categories I work in most often.

Custom Business Applications

Internal tools, dashboards, admin panels, and workflow systems built around your specific business logic. Not a SaaS product configured to fit. Something built for exactly how your team works.

Web Applications

Full-stack web applications built in Node.js, Python, Java, C#, or PHP. Customer portals, booking systems, reporting tools, multi-tenant platforms, and anything else that needs to run in a browser and talk to a database.

API Development and Integration

RESTful APIs, GraphQL, webhooks, and third-party integrations. Connecting your systems to each other and to the platforms you depend on -- payment processors, ERPs, CRMs, shipping carriers, marketing platforms, and more.

Database Architecture

Schema design, query optimization, data modeling, and migration. PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, Db2. I design databases that perform under load, scale cleanly, and do not become a bottleneck six months after launch.

Legacy Application Modernization

Old systems that still run the business but are expensive to maintain, impossible to extend, or depend on infrastructure that is going end-of-life. I assess what can be preserved, what needs to be rewritten, and how to migrate without disrupting operations.

Workflow Automation

Manual processes that eat staff time and introduce errors. Automated pipelines, scheduled jobs, event-driven workflows, and integration glue that keeps data synchronized across your systems without anyone having to touch it.

CRM Integration

Salesforce, HubSpot, Siebel, SAP. Connecting your CRM to your other systems so data flows without manual entry. Custom objects, workflow triggers, API connections, and bi-directional sync built to match your sales and service processes.

Healthcare Integrations

EPIC APIs, HL7, FHIR. I have built clinical communication systems and patient-facing applications inside major health systems. Healthcare integrations require a different level of precision -- the data is sensitive, the regulations are strict, and the margin for error is zero.

Payment and E-Commerce Systems

Stripe, Braintree, Authorize.net, PayPal. Custom checkout flows, subscription billing, recurring payments, refund handling, and the back-end accounting logic that makes a payment system actually reliable rather than just functional in the demo.

How It Works

No discovery calls that lead nowhere. No long scoping documents before I understand your problem. Just a direct conversation and a path forward.

01

Tell me the problem.

You describe what is not working, what you are trying to accomplish, or what your current system cannot do. You do not need to know what technology is involved. That is my job.

02

We agree on what solved means.

Before any code is written, we define the outcome. What does success look like? What are the constraints? What does the system need to do, and what does it not need to do? I put that in writing so we are both aligned.

03

I go to work.

I build it, test it, document it, and deploy it. You hear from me regularly. If something changes, I tell you before it becomes a problem. When it is done, it works the way we agreed it would.

Have a software problem?

Tell me what you need. If I can build it, I will tell you how. If something else would serve you better, I will tell you that too.
